TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY
Shrove Tuesday
Mardi Gras (Ala., Fla., La.) 1970 41st day - 324 days to come
Armin Speer called. He is interested in my rewriting the
rules for QUADS, since he liked how my X'Mas list
column in S & T was written. He would like to see the
one on QUADS and I said I'd send him my pre-publi-
cation copy. I also said he should look at AGOG be-
fore making up his mind to have me do the writing.
I quoted him a price of $15 an hour and an esti-
mate of 10 to 15 hours.
He said that QUADS sold 300 copies thru
GAME OF THE MONTH CLUB (N.J.).
Ran off repros of DICEY.
At barber shop saw Feb. 1970 POPULAR MECHANICS. It
had an ad for CARIBBEAN CHECKER GAMES.
C. Ljohn, 5118 Dorchester
Chicago, Ill. 60615
($2.00, color $3.00)
Rcd. letter from Haar Hoolim. He said he read AGOG
hastilly.
Rcd. letter from Phil Cohen. He sent me information on the
following: - NUCLEAR CHESS; REINCARNATION CHESS; ROTATION CHESS;
[illegible crossed out] RESTRICTED ROTATION CHESS; FREE ROTATION CHESS;
DEPLOYMENT; DYNAMO CHESS; BALANCED MARSELLAIS DYNAMO CHESS.
Also discussed my ideas on VIEWPOINT and he had some ideas of his own.
Kruskal never answered him and he asked if I would sent him the
rules of DELPHI.
He declined my invitation to play postal FOCUS (the recording
is difficult). He is playing LINES OF ACTION (4 games), CUPS, PAPER BOXING,
and CROSSINGS. Will try TROMINO GO.
Feb. TOYS & NOVELTIES came (earliest yet). KING CHECK,
a three-hand CHECKERS VERSION is shown in New Products.
Started a letter to Jared Johnson. Then started looking thru
patents to find that predessessor of STRATEGO. It was
TOGO in 1915.
Claude called and we discussed getting together
Claude stopped at my office after a visit to Ego. It is go-
ing bankrupt and Claude was on his way to the outfit that
did his puzzles to check on the royalties. He borrowed $5
from me in case he wanted to buy some puzzles.
In evening called him. They treated him well and said
that they would send the next royalties to him, but didn't
go into amounts. They are interested in seeing more puzzles.
Made a layout for the puzzle EXCALIBUR with each of
