Friday 23 January 1970
23rd day - 342 days to come
Cancelled checks came back and the one to NAMO Inc. (see 1/22)
and to GAME OF THE MONTH CLUB (N.Y.) both cleared.
The check to Charles Wells (PARLEMENT) for $1 [illegible crossout]
(see 8/24/69) never cleared. (I wonder if he ever rcd. it and
my letter.)
Some further thoughts on the first PUZZLE idea of 1/22. Use flat
pieces with notches so that they nest together as shown.
[Small diagram of pieces with notches - 3 across the top, two across the bottom.]
Phil Orbanes called. A writer who is doing the rules for
AQUARIUS 2000 is interested in meeting me. He has a copy

(checker type I think). Each player moves across the board
from his side. There is a pit in the center. (Very rough idea.)
NAVAL ESCORT - An abstract war game with moving and
firing of torpedos. Didn't get details as they will send
me a copy.
The N.Y. rep is "Frank Shain" - Rm. 453 - 200 Fifth.
Chapman Games Division Dymo Products - Dymo of Canada Ltd.
PRO FOOTBALL GAME, PRO BASEBALL GAME. Didn't get time
to look at these. See page 258 of March 1970 PLAYTHINGS.
U.S. Game Systems, Inc. - Still have STUDENT SURVIVAL, but
nothing else of interest.
International Learning Corp. - spoke to "Mr. Vander Voort", the V.P.
He gave me IN-QUEST. Also the rules for TRADE THE MARKET.
Then Dan Goldberg, who invented it, said he would send me
a game. Took a catalog and info on SPE-LINGO, a word
rummy game. The cards have syllables on some of them,
instead of single letters. (Material filed with 1970 Ad Clips.)
"Bob Whipperman" came over and I showed him JAI ALAI in AGOG.
He insisted on giving me a copy of the new edition, with differ-
ent box graphics and simplified rules. He said that distribut-
ion was held up while he made the change.
Embree - Had a series of PUZZLES where a number of hex
