Call from Jerry Dougherty. Told me a little more about TWA and GO SEE. The fellow there thinks it is a very unique concept, but feels that it might be necessary to simplifie it for promotional purch purposes.
Told Jerry about my idea for MAN IN SPACE. He said it sounded great. He'll have Dan call me.
Alex Tom Atwater called to give me season's greetings. Alex got his advance for DŌZO and ISHIDŌ. They are having trouble with manufacturing one of them (which?) since it is made with indentations, rather than holes. This is similar to MEM and Tom showed Holt an early model by Alex so that he wouldn't feel his idea had been stolen.
Holt is depressed by the way MEM is going. He wants to rewrite the rules but Stellador just isn't doing anything about it. Nothing is happening with MAGGIE. They have dropped Gary & Reidell since they didn't seem to be doing anything.
I asked about Hank Simmons. Tom said that their acquisition of CO-5, which is being merged with Lakeside, definitely puts them in the boxed game business, says Hank. He is looking for more. Told Tom a little about COUNTERPOINT. He'll try to get here soon to look at it, possibly next week.
Tom has contacts with the Carrom company, which wants to expand into more games.
Tom also has contacts with Hasbro. I told him that I really wasn't interested in dealing with them since their knock-off of 3M's packaging. He agrees with me.
Left work at 4. To Brentano's. Saw : - DYNASTY : - There is a large canvas board divided into 7 provinces, which are divided into a quadrille. Money is provided in the form of sacks of grain. There are various "realia" such as vases, scrolls, a palace, etc. There are 8 booklets, one for each of the 8 possible players. 1 is the emporer; 1 official; 1 scholar; 1 warlord; and 4 peasants of various types. The booklets give the personalities of the characters and they must act according to those personalities, such as the emporer must be aloof from peasants and even from the official; but he must have the general welfare of the people in mind, must tax but not too high & must construct public works. In each turn players must auction an article of "realia", but can set the starting price as high as they want.
When a player collects a certain set of "realia" plus a certain amount of grain he can move up to a new position and the player in that position must change places with him.
The 7 provinces are assigned to various players, the warlord not
