FRIDAY 12 DECEMBER 1969
346th day - 19 days to come
To Felicia at lunch to pick up the finished model of THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS.
Gave her a copy of the review I rcd. yesterday. Looked at a game by Henry Szwarce - POSSIBLE.
There is a betting layout with number from 1 to 18. 2 to 6 play. The betting layout is blocked off so that 3 times the number of players are available (as from 1 to 15 if 5 are playing).
Each player has a marker of his color, a disc on with he can secretly [illegible] record from 1 to 3 orange circles, and chips.
The players set their discs at from 1 to 3 circles and then 1 at a time place their marker on what they guess will be the total number of circles showing. Choose for first (which is a disadvantage) in the first game, then the winner of one game starts the next. A player may not bet on a number he knows would be impossible in view of the number of circles he has chosen. He may not use the same number as another player.
A number of chips are put by each player in a "pot." The one who correctly guesses the total wins the pot. In case of no winner the pot accumulates for next game (who goes first?).
Players may make side bets to be won by the one closest to the total among those betting.
She showed this around without success. I suggested Cadaco, and told her to see Monihan at 200 5th Ave.
Rcd. a short thank you letter for AGOG from Bill Caruson.
Rcd. 2 copies of NOST-ALGIA - #116 (Why?).
Sally Kovalchick sent me "the first copy" of the second printing of AGOG with a very pleasant letter.
Diane called during day to thank me for material I sent her and I thanked her for the review. Told her about Ruth Jacobs show.
Rcd. two letters that Martin Gardner rcd. on his Nov. column in SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, together with a note.
One from Vannevar Bush with a game of solitaire card GAME of his own invention.
One from: Bill Mikulas
The University of West Florida
Pensacola, Florida 32504
He objected to some of the rules of VENTURE. I looked at the latest issue and the bastards at 3M added some new one that completely change the balance!!
