WEDNESDAY 26 NOVEMBER 1969
330th day - 35 days to come
Jim called and read me the article by Michael Stern in the
Oct. 30th Wall St. Journal. It was largely on the German
names in The General ads for opponents.
Taped a short interview with John Wingate at WOR.
War games and a few other things discussed. Will
probably be on next week.
Before taping stopped at Felicia's and signed 5 copies
of AGOG for her. She bought them at Brentano's.
After taping to Macy's, Gimbel's, and F.A.O. Schwartz.
Nothing new. Saw my book & games around.
To Random House. Met Barbara Francis & had pleasant talk
for few minutes.
Then to Diane to report on the Wingate interview. She
had the Nov. SATURDAY REVIEW and it had a short but
very good plug for AGOG. She gave me three copies
and I later bought the magazine.
She gave me the advertising schedule for the group
I am included in : -
N.Y. Times - Dec. 7th (18 titles)
N.Y. Magazine - Dec. 8th}
L.A. Times - Dec. 14th}
Book World - Nov. 30th}
(8 titles) [Referring to Dec. 8, Dec. 14, and Nov. 30.]
She will come to supper on Dec. 11th.
Got info on Ruth Jacobs interview on Dec. 10th.
Arlene Francis decided not to have me on.
To Claude's in evening. Played COUNTERPOINT, Mary Ellen
and me against Anne & Marty. Noone cared too much
about it except me. Decided to make 50 points the
game and a double game for getting 11 poi or more
points ahead of the other side.
Claude had another version of a NIM game he calls
LAST MAN. The board is as shown
[Diagram showing 12 dots connected to 1 or 2 other dots via line segments.]
12 markers are placed at the 12 intersections. 2 play. Players
in turn take off one marker or two which
are connected by a line. Player forced to take
the last marker loses. (We played a number
of games & I won them all.)
I think that with a little study it can
be determined who has the win.
As a possible proprietary game a board can
be provided with holes for placing the line segments in
different arrangements.
Claude gave me an ad from NEW YORK MAGAZINE (sometime in
November) with an ad for DYNASTY, which has some of the
characteristics of the Amberstone's POWER. It costs $14.95.
Claude returned MATHEMATICS AND THE IMAGINATION.
