Thursday 30 October 1969
303rd day - 62 days to come
Barbara Francis called. Asked if I had found any errors in
A GAMUT OF GAMES that I would like corrected. The original
run was 8,000 but when 6,000 (probably including those
that the "Science Book of the Month Club" took) were sold they
decided to run another 3,000 Barbara acted as if this is
very unusual for a book of this type.
Fay Baker called. Wants me to rewrite the description
of TREASURE HUNT to cover 4 couples instead of 4 individu-
als. She tried but couldn't succeed. I said that I just
didn't have the time but would try to get Claude to do it.
She thought that was a good idea as long as she didn't have
to deal directly with Claude.
After work to Felicia's and met Garard Dougherty (V.P.), Daniel
C. Ferrone (Exec. V.P.), and the President, whose name I don't
remember, of [bracket] IMPACT COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
Penn Garden Hotel
New York 10001; Tel. 736-3400
They are producing a GAME based on the trip of the MANH
"The Manhattan" around Canada for Humble Oil, to be sold
in gas stations for $1.79. They are starting with 250,000
as a test. Felicia was paid to give an evaluation of the game.
She praised the physical quality but was non-committal
about the play value. She felt it was rather ordinary.
They are interested in many more games for many
clients. The following list is from a letter Dan sent
later covering the topics discussed. (Material in paren-
thesis is mine.)
1) "Immediate Interest:
MARLBORO COUNTRY or MAVERICK COUNTRY.
IMPO 7 (Not a game but a clever learning device by another
of Felicia's clients. There is a set of cards, each one giving
a definition of a word - up to 7 letters long. On a
gadget the word is spelled out by moving slides to the
proper letters. The handles for moving the slides are
now in a pattern determined by the letters used. If the
word is correct [crossout] a series of holes in the card will
fit over the handles.)
CINEMA
GO SEE
U.S. TRAVEL GAME (Not sure if this is the correct name.
A quiz game based on the U.S.)
CORPORATION (To be played in cards, etc.)
SUBWAY
GAMES for me to work out on following topics:-
"Buttons", "Cosmetics", "Moon Shot Commemorative", "Building-3D".
2) To be further evaluated:
CAPTURE THE CARGO
DANGER STRAITS
(cont. on 10/29)
