THURSDAY 23 OCTOBER
1969 296th day - 69 days to come
Called Fay Hertog to tell her the author's copies finally came. The 10 copies
she was sending went out last night. I decided to keep all of them
that is 40 books in addition to the 10 author's copies and a few other
free ones. Fay said that if I get a bill, ignore it and it will be
charged against future royalties.
Spoke to Fabio. He has rcd. my letter and will look into it. He is
quite sure [crossed out] the charge will be removed, unless I hear otherwise from
him.
I asked about the advance from the Science Book of the Month Club.
Fabio said it would go to covering my advance.
I was curious whether I get royalties on the books I buy. Yes.
Called Diane Jaust. Gave her Tom Shaw's address at Avalon Hill. She'll
send him two copies of the book, one for Erick Dott.
She [crossed out] sent the negatives of the pictures Dana took and also
a copy of the blown up picture to me.
Frank Thibault called from a hotel and I called him back when I
got home. Made a date to get together for lunch tomorrow and then
possibly he'll come here for supper tomorrow.
Rcd. a letter from "St. John's University Military Strategy Club"
inviting me to join them.
Gave Marylin & Dave a copy of A GAMUT OF GAMES. They gave me the
address of an antique toy & game dealer.

11 x 11 or 13 x 13. The center square is marked. Each player
- 2 to 4 can play - has a set of 54 (or 57, he didn't
remember exactly) tiles of his color. Each tile connects
two of the 12 points marked in the illustration.
Starting next to the center square players play one
or more tiles trying to reach scoring squares which are
placed symmetrically around the center square, getting
more valuable the greater the distance. (Rough idea, Frank
promised to send me the rules.
TOTEM :- (Left copies with Transogram & E.S. Lowe.) This is played
on a 9 x 9 board. When 2 play the "goal spaces" are
at the center of two opposite ends. Players each have
6 six "posts" which are set up as shown. Each player has
15 large beads,
5 each of the
shapes shown
[circle, square, diamond].

Frank considers not using the shaded squares when 2 play but is not sure.
