FRIDAY 10 OCTOBER
1969 283rd day - 82 days to come
Realized that I couldn't use the name TRIAD because
TRYCE already is in the card line. Looked thru the
book GAME OF MA CHIANG and found the name PE LING
which is another of the many names for MAH JONG.
Think I'll use this.
Also think we ought to submit WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU?
since only Will Erickson and Bob Claude saw it briefly
and only the sit-down version, which is definitely
not the important one. It will need a new short name-
possibly BARGAIN.
SPELLBINDER came back from 3M.
Fay Baker called. Wants me to talk to a programmer.
Also wants my biography. Was impressed that A GAMUT OF GAMES
will be on the cover of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN.
(cont. from 10/11) [10/11]
All orthogonal connections must be either the same color or ad-
jacent in the color wheel. No more than 2 of the same
color can be in one row. Continue placing balls until
no more can be placed. Player with least balls remaining
is the winner. (Not sure of these rules, particularly that a
ball must be played next to one already played. John
will send me the rules when they are printed. He gave me
a set for playing.) This will also be out this year.
THE DECA-LOGIC SYSTEM (Previously called DECIMOS) will be
issued next year.
MINI METRIC CHESS will also be issued next year. It is the
same as METRIC CHESS except that it is played on a
grid of 5 x 5 large (3 x 3) squares instead of a 9 x 9 grid.
The even number pcs. are eliminated.
HABITAT is also due for next year. (John has rcd. permission
from the Israeli architect to use the name.) This is
played on a 6 x 6 grid and is built up into a pyramid.
Balls should match all the balls they are played a-
gainst by either being the same color or next adjacent
on the color wheel. They can be played however if they
don't match but the player receives a penalty for doing
so. (Rough idea.)
John is also considering another set of games in which the
grid is hexagonal and cubes are used instead of balls.
When they are placed point down in the hexes they can be
built into a pyramid, a cube fitting into 3 previously
placed cubes.
Showed John my S & T column & gave him a copy of
A GAMUT OF GAMES.
(cont. on 10/8)
