MONDAY 8 SEPTEMBER
1969 251st day - 114 days to come
Made repros of the TEMPO rules and the letter to Jim. At night sent
a letter and set of the rules to Jim Rockwell; also a set of rules,
the copy of the letter to Jim, and the letter to Tom Atwater.
Fabio called. Set a date to meet with the Random House publicity direc-
tor and her assistant and Fabio on Sept. 23rd. Told him about
Judy Kornblum (see 8/26).
Barbara called to set the time at 4:55. Told her I was going to
see Martin Gardner tonight and she had a messenger send over an un-
bound set of the book with a jacket.
Called Lou Wetzel & he called me back. He thought that Martin Gardner
reviewed games as a regular policy and would have preferred
a later listing. However he said by all means to have him men-
tion that TAKE 5 and TAM-BIT will be coming out.
Felicia called. She has decided to sent back all the word games
she has on hand, as no company is interested. Asked my o-
pinion and I agreed.
An inventor from Texas sent her a form letter inquiring if
she would be interested in handling some party type GAMES
he has invented. He sent information about several of them,
but not the games themselves. She is mailing the material to
me.
Rcd. the STRATEGY & TACTICS stationery Jim sent me.
To Martin Gardner with BB.
Brought his Lech's PODROZE W KRAINIE GIER and also the puzzle
material Lech sent for him.
Brought him copies of BAZAAR, ACQUIRE, MONAD, & VENTURE.
His children were happy to get them. Jimmy, the older, is a
particular fan of ACQUIRE and is friendly with a family that plays
it regularly. Promised to bring him TWIXT and BLUE LINE HOCKEY.
Showed ZAP and BOARD AND TABLE GAMES 2 to him. He had
seen the former advertised several places. He wasn't im-
pressed with it. We both agreed that games of that type could
be turned out ad-infinitum.
Martin gave me a copy of his "The Ambidextrous Universe."
I read over his column and we discussed a few minor
changes. It is primarily a description of how to play
PATTERNS II discussed from the point of view of a scientist
conducting a series of experiments and publishing the results.
Wrote a note to send to Audrey Pierce with a
repro of the letter to Susan Vibert of PACE, which
BB typed today and I will reproduced tomorrow.
