SATURDAY 23 AUGUST 1969
235th day - 130 days to come
Called Martin Gardner to tell him I had the 3M games for him.
He said that he really didn't need them but I sai wanted
him to have them. When he starts his column after Labor Day he
will contact me and [illegible cross out] I will go there with the material
for him.
He said that Sci. Am. owes him a cover (hasn't had one for
about 2 years) and he'll try to get them to use the November
column, using a picture of a came of PATTERNS II.
Incidentally he thinks that it is better than ELEUSIS
He just rcd. a GAME without a name from
{C.B. Price

It is played on a 4x4 grid and each player has four
[illegible cross out] pieces. These are placed on an empty board one at
a time in turn until all are places. Players then
in turn [illegible cross out] move a piece one space in any
direction (including diagonally) or make a short
leap, on leaps, in any direction. A player may not naturally,
continue indefinitely jumping. Jumped pcs. can belong
to either side and are not removed. Object is to
place the 4 pieces on the 4 corners of any rectangle.
(There are 49 possible rectangles in a different sizes.)
