FRIDAY 22 AUGUST 1969
234th day - 131 days
Bernie Newman, who once wanted to put out FOCUS, called BB
and she called me with his number (WH 3-5800) and I called
him. He is interested in investing money in publishing some
of my games. Wants me to meet with him and a salesman
from Ed-u-Cards, who will go in the company as the
marketing man next Tuesday, at 200 5th Ave. Tentative
for 5:15 next Tuesday, but he'll contact me.
Arthur called. Asked me the rates for an ad in STRATEGY & TACTICS.
Told him I'd check shortly.
Letter from Jim Rockwell. Stilldoesn't think that TEMPO
is long enough or has enough action. Would like to hear
from Tom Atwater. (apparently sent before he got Tom's letter.)
Played a few games with BB and she beat me most of them.
Tried a variation in which a pc. can move as many
spaces as [illegible crossed out] the player wishes as long as they are
open. Also a capture cannot be made except in adjacent space.
Played well. I won a particularly interesting game in
which I had 5 pcs. remaining to BB's 8
Another possibility of lengthening the game would be
to make a larger board - 6 x 6, or preferably 6 x 5
with the possible starting position as shown. Will
have to try it.

Called Jim Dunnigan. Asked him rates for ad in S & T.
$50 for full page, down to $6.25 for 8th page. Half this
if ad is ready to be photographed.
He is going to send me 6 copies of the latest issue.
Also the reproduction of the article from EYE magazine.
I asked him about the TRAFALGAR rules. He hasn't
had a chance to look for them yet.
I asked him about the material on CONFRONTATION he took
from me. He'll get a reproduction of that back to me also.
Nothing new on Infinity Corp. except that Allstate is
paying him $1,000 for his work on the Astrology GAME,
and then the contract is being ended, as he wished.
Made repros of the QUADRILLES material and the other stuff
Lech sent me to give to Martin Gardner.
Bought the Sept. MECHANIX ILLUSTRATED. My name wasn't
mentioned but there were special plugs for ACQUIRE,
FOCUS, and BALI.
