Wednesday 20 August 1969
232nd day - 133 days to come
Called Jan at Pierce Promotions. She just rcd. a new supply of
games and will get them out to Martin. I arranged to
pick up MONAD and VENTURE tomorrow morning on my way
to Random House.
Jan told me that there is an article on games in the
September MECHANIX ILLUSTRATED. She hasn't been able
to get a copy yet.
Called Barbara and then she called me back. I'll go to Bill
Cummings tomorrow morning to check the blueprints.
Called Bob Claude in St. Paul. Told him that [illegible crossout] the
games for Martin Gardner were here. He'll send me a
couple of my card games next week. All the games
are selling well and production delays on the card line
kept them from being shipped in time to be included in the
second quarter.
Some copies of VENTURE were sent to G.I.'s (in Viet
Nam, I think) and they were quite popular, replacing
POKER.
Will Erickson has moved completely out of games and Bill
Caruson is taking over as overall head of the game pro-
gram. Keith Tuggle will head the Bookshelf and sports lines
while Jim Krauses, who I haven't met yet, will handle the
Card & Educational lines.
(cont. from 8/21)[8/21]
Felicia told me that Jake Williams had a nervous break-
down and was in a hospital down south for a few months.
He is now better and has been offered the job of development
head at Ideal. He is debating whether to accept it, since
Ideal is a hectic place in which to work.
The new rules for POWER arrived. Filed them in "Misc. Games"
folder.
At the gift show Felicia saw some games. She had
a sheet for a game TRIAL & BALANCE which shows a
see-saw with compartments on it and weights to place
on it. (put out by Klingler Co.).
Felicia showed me the letter from Randy Barton [Bartin?] (see 8/12),
and her answer. It was polite, but said that Mr. Simmons
had said that THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS could be the suc-
cessor to INSTANT INSANITY. She also said that we hope some-
day that Parker will publish one of my games, but in the
meantime most of the other companies are.
