TUESDAY 8 JULY
1969 189th day - 176 days to come
Barbara called. I'll meet her and Sheila at Bill Cummings'
office tomorrow at 10. She'll have a bound copy of the book
for Lee Horn about 4 weeks before actual publication. She thinks
that Lee should coordinate her efforts with Random House's
P.R. people.
Phil Orbanes called. He is worked with Ceyce's group. His games
will be held off for some time. At present he is working on
an Astrology GAME which will be issued in installments to
be sold in supermarkets. The first kit will be playable
and the supplements will add to the game.
I told him about TAM-BIT, TAKE-FIVE, and SNAFU. He
didn't realize that Renwal had gone that far on a game pro-
gram.
We'll get together sometime next week, with his wife too.
Ran off repros of "Ye Olde Gayme of RITHMOMACHY" from
"Engineering and Science Review." (which I borrowed from Martin.)
Called Lee Horn to tell the name and publisher of
EUGEN OKER'S SPIELWIESE.
She told me that Audrey Pierce will send the games to
Martin, since Audrey is in charge of publicity in the
printed media, while Lee handles radio & TV.
Lee said that she definitely wants to get together with
the P.R. people from Random House.
Felicia called. A fellow from Hasbro is coming up next
week to look at games. She'll contact me to see if I can
get away to meet him.
In evening she called me again. She spoke to Ed Raskin
and he said I could keep the model of SUBWAY.
Called Diane Hoisel and gave her the addresses of some
game companies I had mentioned to her previously. Also
told her about "House of Games."
Called off my date with Claude tomorrow and that with
Arthur & Wald Thursday, due to Esther's death.
Working on letter to Lech Pijanowski.
Thinking of an idea for 3D MANCALA. There are 16 posts in
a 4 x 4 array. There are 32 beads in different colors
which are placed at random, 2 on each post. Moves are
made by "sowing" a post in one of the 4 orthogonal
directions. When the edge is reached the move is continued
on the other side of the board. A post can hold up to 5 heads
and a move can't be made which would result in more. Score
for various color combinations on the posts played to and
(cont. on 7/6)
