FRIDAY 27 JUNE
1969 178th day - 187 days to come
Jerry D'Arcey called. Lakeside is taking JUGALUG. He is
getting $1,000 advance, 3% if it sells for $1 and
5% if it sells for more.
Jerry told me that Hank Simmons is leaving Parker and
coming to Lakeside and he doesn't think he will be very
high up. The one Jerry dealt with in Lakeside, Becker, is
leaving but Jerry thinks that others will take his place, not
Hank.
Jerry didn't get along with Hank. He also feels that
Hank wouldn't have done SOMA in 4 colors if he hadn't
seen Jerry's cubes first.
Jerry is leaving this morning to see Ed Parker in Salem.
he'll see Mel Taft in San Francisco.
I asked Jerry if I should give Mike Abrams his ad-
dress. He said sure.
Frank Thibault is starting a year sabatacal, most of
which will be devoted to games creating games.
Felicia called. The checks from X came for RED LETTER. She'll
send mine to me. Arnold said there was nothing new to
report.
She had a letter from Bob Claude with the following report:
NOMINATION - being returned. Too many cards for card line
and Bill Caruson didn't want another political game
for bookshelf.
CINEMA - being returned. Appeal of subject matter too limited.
IMAGE & DIGIT - will hold them for another 90 days unless
they hear otherwise from us.
ANOTHER - holding for another 40 days as per our agreement
with Will Erickson.
Told Felicia about Hank Simmons leaving Parker. She al-
ready knew in confidence from Angelo Lougo of S&R.
She was thinking of calling to see the status of
THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS. We decided to wait a while
till they get straightened out from Hank's departure.
Incidentally, Jerry said that Dave Laughridge is
still at Parker's.
A later call from Felicia. OCTOPUS came back from
M.B. (they are being very prompt). This is Sid Blazer's
TWISTER takeoff. He postponed his visit to Felicia
till 7/7. I'll try to make it then.
Barbara called to get straightened out on the FOCUS copyright.
I called her later with a thought. At Brentano's I saw
a second volume of puzzles by Stephen Barr. On the
jacket it had a favorable comment by Martin Gardner.
I wondered if they could wait with my jacket to get
something from Martin. She doubted it, and seemed
annoyed that I brought it up, but she'll check into it.
