THURSDAY 26 JUNE
1969 177th day - 188 days to come
Took home the games Claude got me yesterday: GREAT FIGHTS, TRI-OMINOS,
MOTAMO, WOORDENSPEL, & SYNTAX (which I had a copy of already - but
Claude wasn't particularly anxious to have it). Also an old set of regular
cards.
Jerry D'Arcey called. He has to was in N.Y. only till tomorrow
morning and has to see a relative tonight. He came to the office
at lunch time. Showed me:
New version of KU-FU. There are 27 pcs., 5 each of 5 colors, 1 gold-
"Ku" and 1 silver "Fu." It is now played competatively by two or more
players. When the pcs. are thrown out the players in turn take any
two of the same color that are in a line without ob-
structions. When no further pairs can be taken the next
played can take the "Ku". Then additional single pcs.
are taken unless another pair shows up. When only the
"Fu" is left the player whose turn it is must take
it, ending the game. Each piece taken counts +1 point
except the "Ku" which counts +5 and the "Fu" which
counts -5. Getting all 5 of 1 color gives an extra bon-
us of 10 points.
Samsonite liked KU-FU but wanted to hold it for their
1971 line without giving an advance.
JUGALUG. Played with a jug-shaped containing with a cork (made
of plastic) on top. Inside are placed letter discs spelling
"jugalug" (from 4 to 6 sets). A special die is used with a
jug on two faces, a cork on one face and the other
3 blank. Players in turn throw the die. When one throws a jug face
he grabs the jug, removes the cork, and starts shaking out letter discs. The
other players keep throwing the die until the cork face shows
up at which time the player with the jug stops and re-
places the cork. The game then continues in the same way until
a player can spell "jugalug." There is a marble in the jug
and when this comes out the player must return it and all
discs taken out on this turn before another player notices
it. If notice before returning the player must return all the
discs he took in this turn and previously,
Wham-O liked it but wouldn't give an advance.
UP-TIGHT. 2 to 4 can play. Each has a set of six pieces of (roughly)
the shapes shown. There is a screen about 6" high.
[3-D shapes drawn to left of paragraph:
round disc, cylinder, S-shaped piece, C-shaped piece, lightning-shaped piece, plus-sign piece, dotted line, shape like a handle]
Each player has two gadgets as shown below.
The first player holds the two gadgets and takes
one of his pieces between them and passes
it over the screen to the next player on
his left. That player adds a piece of
his own and pressing the two together
passes them to the next player. Etc.
The piece to be added can be placed by
hand but the passing must be done
with the gadgets. When a group of pieces
falls the player keeps them and the
