MONDAY 7 APRIL
1969 97th day - 268 days to come
Harold Lazow called. I'll go there Friday to see SHOOT THE MOON. He apologized
about being gone last Friday.
I called Bob Claude, person to person. They had applied for the name
VENTURE before Parker & Will Erickson cleared it up with Hank Simmons. He
wasn't too happy about my calling to check on the new name for their
game, but I convinced him that I would be diplomatic.
Asked him about SPELLBINDER. He said that they have been too busy
since I resubmitted it have my panel testing.
Asked him about the card number GAME they had been looking at.
They changed it completely but, since they got the idea from him, they made
him an offer which they didn't think he would accept, but he did. I asked, and
told him about DIGIT. He said that their game was quite different from KRYPTO
and by all means to send DIGIT. May 1st would be the absolute latest
there would be any chance of test-marketing it this fall. They are
not looking at any games for the next 90 days, except for submissions
by about three people - and I am one of them.
BB called Barbara Francis to tell her that the review section would run about
twice as long as we figured. Barbara said that [crossed out] since they
were using small type & double column, not to worry. She took down the
paragraph on [crossed out] ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR I since they want to start
setting type.
Rcd. the NFFF Games Bureau material from Don Miller. Among other
things it had rules for: COURIER CHESS, SUMMIT-WARGAME VERSION,
SPACE-WAR GAME (which is played with a computer), WARI,
THE NAVAL WAR GAME, THE JUNGLE GAME, KING CHESS,
NINE MEN'S MORRIS. Future folios will include RIMAU-RIMAU,
WARP CHESS, XIANGQI, SPACE CHESS, and others.
Letter from Ivan Preston came. INTERACTION will not be continued.
Mel Taft sent an apology for not seeing me at Toy Fair. Suggested
my coming there to see him or Jim Hullahan and him at 200 5th in
a few weeks.
Finished the reviews of "financial games."
In conversation with Bob Claude told him about NBC games.
He already knew the details about the packaging, but not
the games. Told him that they weren't as good as the 3M,
but they'd have to advertise that.
