FRIDAY 4 APRIL
Good Friday 1969 94th day - 271 days to come
Called Harold Lazow about going to see SHOOT THE MOON. Not in, but
he'll call me next Monday.
Barbara yesterday brought up the point that the Times article should
say that the book will be coming out in the fall. Called Collier and he
said that he mentions "forthcoming" book. He said that he had been a-
bout to call me and ask where he can find out the dollar volume of
games. I suggested the TMA or one of the trade magazines.
Tom Shaw sent me the rules of ANZIO and C&O/B&O. The games
will be shipped in a week or so. (To me?)
Phil Orbanes called to check about the imitation of the 3M packaging. Didn't
tell him the name of the company, but gave him the other details.
He thinks he had better look for another kind of packaging, since he will
get lost in the rush with bookcase packaging.
Told him that I thought he probably will be making up enough
games of his own, even when he is running the company. He said
that he'd like to have me, Jim & him work as a team.
He is working on a game, tentative name SUCCESS, which has
a set of oversize tiles which have different ingredients to put together
to achieve certain goals - such as "time off" + "airplane ticket" +
"hotel reservation" to get a "vacation tile." (Very rough idea.)
Chris Wagner called about the new A.H. games. Told him that Tom sent me
the rules. Told him that I sent for PARLEMENT about two weeks again
ago and hadn't received it. He said he'd send me his. Will write again
to Don Miller to have him send me the Game Newsletter material.
He mentioned there is a company called "Helen of Toy" which puts out a line
of inexpensive games of poor quality. All are battle games, except two
called BLAST OFF & TRYLON. He will send me one battle game, TASK FORCE,
which he has on hand, and will get the others sent to me, either
by the company or he will buy them for about 50¢ each and send them
to me. I told him to take out any such payments from my column
money.
He will also contact Rod Walker, who puts out material on DIPLOMACY
variations, and have him contact me.
He has room to fill in the next edition and it is fine if TROMINO GO goes
over 1060 words.
