TUESDAY 11 MARCH
1969 70th day - 295 days to come
To Bloomingdale's. Looked at TURNCOAT again (see 12/10/68)
and added one point. Still not positive it is exactly
right. Also looked at RECALL (M.B.). Up to 4 can
play. Each has a set of cardboard figures
of houses, animals, humans, etc. Each in turn sets
up a 4 compartment tray with a picture, after
spinning to see how many pieces can be used. This is
put on a turntable which is rotated by a spring.
As the others see the picture for a certain number
of rotations they try to reconstruct them exactly.
Score points for correctly placed pieces.
At Riis Brothers saw DOUBLE TROUBLE (Whitman). A jigsaw
puzzle with large pieces and two complete sets in two
colors. As one player places pieces the other keeps spinning
a spinner till he spins red. Then he takes over placing
pieces; etc. Some spins allow you to remove pieces opponent
already has placed.
To F.A.O. Schwartz. Half price sale on UNIVERSE, PA-KA,
and CASE OF THE ELUSIVE ASSASSIN. Came back on way home
and bought the first two.
To International Toy Show.
Shackman. THREE DIMENSIONAL DOMINOES. The same (I am pretty
sure) as the German TRIMINO. It has 45 triangular domin-
oes and 6 paper diagrams.
Marlon Creations. The fellow I met last week gave me a copy
of HEXES. Introduced me to G.N. Hanna, sales director of
Spear's Games. Had a pretty long conversation. He said that
when I come to England again I should get in touch with:-
{ J.W. (Richard) Spear (& Sons Ltd.)
Green Street, Enfield
Middlesex
He is very interested in the history of games. Hanna also
mentioned a book on games which he says is not Bell's or
Murray's. Gave him my card and he said he'd look it up when
he gets back to England and send me the name.
Hanna also suggested that I submit games to them. Gave
me a folder with some of their games:- Including - TREK,
KON-TIKI (which Hanna says is strictly for kids) and
UNDERSEA ADVENTURE. (Filed in 1969 Ad Clips). Hanna said that due
to some four or five inquiries every week they may reissue FLUTTER.
B.P.C. Publishing Ltd. (Ariel Games). Talked to Kenneth E. Pickett.
Showed me THE GAME OF FIVES. It is played on
a 10 x 10 board as shown. Each of the 2 players has 20
pieces. The play is the same as GO-MOKU except that when
a line of 5 is completed it scores the sum of the squares it
rests upon. After the 20 pieces are placed they are
