TUESDAY 4 MARCH 1969
63rd day - 302 days to come
To Toy Fair @ Statler Hilton.
3M. Long talk with Bob Claude. The card games are going
national and will consist of MONAD (rules will be fixed),
VENTURE (under a new name 3M did apply for a Trade Mark
but Parker beat them, & suggested CAPITAL. He will throw it
in the hopper when he gets back), FOIL and TRYCE (he will
send me the rules now and copies of the games when they
are in production. He will also send me a set of money cards
for Venture now and several copies of both my games when they
are in production).
They are looking for a number game for the card line.
They dealt with the inventor of KRYPTO but he wanted
two too much for his production facilities. Another inventor
submitted a GAME which they changed completely around
to make it playable. They are thinking of offering a reduced
royalty but don't think he'll take it. If he does, Bob will
let me know. In the meantime, I'll think about one.
The new Bookshelf games are FEUDAL and FOIL (He'll remind
Bill to send me copies.)FOIL, therefor, is going in both lines.
In their test marketing the one city where they both were
sold was where they both did best.
I mentioned that Felicia told me that EGGHEAD OR CHICKEN
did very well. He said they were disappointed with it and that
SUM TIMES did much better. They are figuring on changing
the name to make it sound more educational. Also they will
change some of the cardboard to plastic to make it look like
more. Talking about educational games I mentioned that
Frank Thibault had said that BAZAAR was being used in
his school as a teaching aid, and I suggested that perhaps
a new edition for the Eduplaytional could be made.
He said they were trying to move the Bookshelf line into
schools, but going at it slowly.
Showed him my changes in SPELLBINDER but took it with me
to make repros of the rules at the office tonight and give
it to him tomorrow. Also showed him ANOTHER, and played
a game. Took it with me, saying that I wanted to show it
to someone else so that they would know about it, it 3M didn't
take it. I'll give. it to him tomorrow also.
Showed him CINEMA and NOMINATION and wanted to take
it home for packaging (since the equipment was loose
since the boxes were ruined by Hallmark) but he said everyone
there knows that I do a beautiful job of packaging and he
took it as it was.
Discussed the rumor he heard that Hasbro would be imitating
the Bookshelf and Sports packaging. We'll try to get a further info on it.
To Dick Conner. Promised to bring him a copy of BAZAAR tomorrow.
Met Felicia there.
To Avalon Hill, Saw Harold Frankel again. Tom Shaw there. We had
