Ember Day
59th day - 306 days to come
Jerry D'Arcey called and made a date to come here tomorrow. Had to
call off the date with Claude (but he did it to me last week).
He dropped up to the office and I gave him 10 3/4" cubes. He
brought me three Sci Ams. which gets me tight up to date. I in-
sisted in paying him for them.
Claude was at Oggi and they liked his 21 puzzle. They gave him
a copy of CUPI-DARTS, a strip tease dart board. Different spaces have
articles of male and female clothing. If dart lands in space of
opposite sex thrower can specify person of other sex to take it off. If
same sex, takes it off himself. A bullseye gets a kiss from a person
of your choice. (Bob Oxhandler liked it so I gave it to him.)
Daily News had an article on Toy Fair. (Filed in "Articles from Periodicals")
Chris Wagner over in the evening. Discussed my doing a column for
STRATEGY & TACTICS. He wants to broaden the appeal of the magazine
and attract people who are interested in non-war strategic games.
He thinks that the first column should be devoted to an introduc-
tion to my background, and should be ready by the beginning of May.
[crossout] Avalon Hill will be distributing S&T so the circulation
should increase.
Chris [crossout] says that Irv Lubow and the president of Renwal
have 3 more years to go on their contract after the takeover by
Allstate and they are in the saddle till then. Possibly another
setup will be made for Phil & Gamescience, but Chris doesn't think there
is nearly as much money in Allstate as Phil thinks there is.
Chris as part of his arrangement with A.H. will be reviewing their
new games as part of the development. He, BB, Dana, and I played
FREE FORM. He liked it and suggested that I show it to Tom Shaw next
Tuesday. A.H. has bought out TUF and TUF'ABET a companion word game.
Chris said that Capt. Rod Walker has a lot of variations of DIPLOMACY.
He will send me his address.
Also Don Miller is head of NFFF Game Bureau and issues a
Games Letter and other material. Will also send me his address.
Called Jim Dunnigan after Chris was dropped at subway I called and
told him about Stan Harris' activities in games. He'll talk to Phil about it.
I especially want to know what to do if Stan wants to take AIRLINE with
him. Jim is working on two games: UP AGAINST THE WALL - about
college confrontations, and LUFTWAFFE.
BB and I played SPELLBINDER. Still not too good. Dealing four cards
into a pool each time a word is made gives some impossible letter combin-
ations.
No mail at all today.
Felicia called. Some big shot recommended that a Percy Goldman contact her
about having a game created to push a product. She'll let me know when
she gets further information.
She has an article on Stock Market GAMES which she'll give me when
we got together. BALI is mentioned in an article in a paper I picked up
at the Fair. She asked me to send her a copy, which a will.
