WEDNESDAY 26 FEBRUARY
Ember Day 1969 57th day - 308 days to come
To 200 Fifth Ave. at 9:00 A.M.
Parker Brothers:- Said hello to Randy Barton & then spoke to Hank
Simmons. Showed him a copy of the "Table of Contents" and he would
like to keep one. Promised to send it to him. He would also
like to see the Review Section when it is finished. Told him
I would try me best to get one to him in time for his
comments (which he said of course would not be binding on me.).
He has imported a new line of more adult toys and games,
mostly from Denmark, which he will show me at the Stationery
Show. He thinks that this line will be able to use some of my
thinking.
They have bought out AUTO-BRIDGE.
One of the salesmen marked off a catalog with items that
have been dropped. Among them:- UNIVERSE, TYCOON, CAMALOT.
The new games are VENTURE (which is trademarked). It is a
simple battle game played on a board as shown. 2, 3, or
4 play, each for himself. Each player
has 3 pieces, a king started in the
red space & two pawns started in the
gray spaces (these are actually in
the 9 x 9 square in the spaces indicated
by the arrows.
There is a sequence selector with 5
black and 5 white marbles. These are
shaken and come down in a tube showing
5. Starting with the bottom the color of
the marbles indicate the color of the spaces
that a piece moves to, and in that order.
Orthogonal moves only and the same space
may be entered twice. Cannot move
unless all 5 can be used. An occupied space
cannot be passed through.
[Diagram of an 11 x 11 board populated with dark and light circles. There are shapes on each out-side of the board with arrows pointing toward the 11 x 11 square. 3 squares, 3 circles, 3 ovals, and 3 triangles.]
Capture by ending in an opponent's space on the fifth marble.
A pawn is removed from the game. A king is sent back to its
starting space, and if it has a crown the crown is lost. A crown
is earned by making and capture. Object is to move into the
opposite red space. (Not stated - but if opponent's king is there it
must be removed to win the game.)
SOMA. A 54 page little booklet comes with it and gives rules
for a "game". Each player has a cube in a different color (it is
made in 4). They each pass a piece to the other (any except the
3 cube one) and then race to complete a cube with the non-
standard set (they can all be done). It can also be a stipulated
that the passed piece must be in a particular level (1st, 2nd,
or 3rd).
FUNNY BONES : - Got a copy of it.
SITUATION 7 : - Same game as SITUATION 4<.u> but with a
circular playing field and a space theme. Board is as shown (and
also see ad sheet in 1969). Each player has a set of jig-saw
pieces that can completely cover the field (with different
