FRIDAY 1 NOVEMBER 1968
All Saints' Day
306th day - 60 days to come
Writing an introduction for CUPS. Also added ALDIBORONTIPHOSKY PHORNIOSTIKOS to the end of chapter 1.
Alice called, The letter from Bob Claude came.
MATCHED SET : - Being returned. Too much a matter of throwing a dice.
FLINGERS :- Not enough to it to warrent their price muge, baing.
returned.
FREE FOR ALL, SPELLBINDER, Going to test panels. Has a number
of questions on the two-hand version of the latter. Looked at my
rules and there is no problem. I'll just give some examples.
Called Fabio. Made an appointment for Nov, 12, at 12:30: He'll take me
to lunch and have the sheets reproduced while we eat, Told him to
have 70 or 80.
He had a short letter from Alex. He is moving to Tokyo.
Called Bob Claude. Asked him and he told me that he had rcd. my letter on
WOLF 'N SHEEP. Said he was sorry he hadn't acknowledged it. They
have been up to their neck getting the card line ready. Finally started
testing again. Giving preference to Alice's clients rather than those
who just send in one game.
The games they are testing in the card line are
VENTURE, MONAD, TRYCE, FOIL. Mine will be tested in all 6 markets while the others will be done only in some.
TRYCE is a word rummy game, FOIL, of course, is also a word game,
being the one I worked on. It is also being tried for bookshelf and
bookshelf will get first preference, I said that they can't use so
many card word games but he seemed to think that
SPELLBINDER has a good chance.
Bob will send me copies of all 4.
The reason for changing the names of my two games was the art
department which wants only a short name to fit the package.
BB and I played THREE MUSKETEERS. Not sure which side has the
advantage. Haar in his letters says the one with 22 pieces has the
advantage and suggests a score that gives that player the
highest score for acheiving victory with the least pieces left. I
think I'll include that and also the opposite, giving that player
I point for each piece he has left.
The 3M check came.
Jim Dunnigan called. Mr. Clancey (this is not the correct spelling
since he is a Czech rather than Irish, but Jim doesn't know
the pelling.) of Allstate ( this is a holding company, not connected with
Sears Roebuck) had a big meeting today and wants to expand his toy
and game operations, possibly take over A-H, Jim talked me up and
Said I might be hearing from him either with an offer for a full-
time job or as a consultant.
Jim says he will try to get up have with Chris Wagner before
