THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER 1968
Hallowe'en
Reformation Day
305th day - 61 days to come
Wrote up LOA, including an example of an end game. Looked at CUPS.
Check from Ideal came third quarter for CASE OF THE ELUSIVE ASSASSIN
- $37.11.
Alice called, Will Erickson & Bob Claude were in town for the business
show and dropped in a while. Talked about the following games.
SPELLBINDER : - Just got to it, will likes it a lot and it going into
panel testing. They have some questions on it which we will be
getting in the mail.
MONAD : - Alice said we preferred INFINITE PLANE. Will said that we'd
be happy with MONAD when the checks started coming in.
I resented the remark but Alice said it was said just as a joke. But
he didn't say why they had changed the name.)
VENTURE. They had samples to bring us of this and MONAD but each
thought the other had brought them. They will send them.
THESE UNITED STATES Going into test panel.
EXECUTIVE DECISION : - They didn't know whether Bill Caruson receized it
yet.
The EduPlaytional line is doing very well they say. (Alice said
that Haus Goldsmith made around $1300 on CHICKEN OR EGGHEAD EGGHEAD OR CHICKEN)
They are looking for more games for the line.
(cont. from 11/1) [11/1]
the end of the month. Mr. Clancey, incidentally, is thinking of
taking over STRATEGY & TACTICS. Jim said I would be getting
the remaining issues to bring me up to date soon.
John Geiger over in the evening. He is going ahead with putting out
a lines of games himself. He is getting many of the suppliers, etc,
to accept stock instead of cash. He is also licensing the games to the
company in quantities, I think, of 1000 at a time, in case he
loses stock control.
Martin Gardner suggested Tom Atwater as a representative. I told
him what I knew about Atwater's activities and suggestead Gary & Riedel,
He has already been told to contact them and has an appointment
He is starting with a small grid of 6x6 which he will call
THE LOGI-QUAD PUZZLE. On this he will have the puzzle of
placing 18 balls each of two colors so that no squares are formed
of 4 balls of either color, including those with rotated axes.
This is from Martin Gardner's HIP and SQUARE (?)
There is also a game. Players in turn place one ball of
their color. When all 36 are down each player stores 1 point for
each ball that is in a line of 2 or more, counting horizontally and
vertically separately. Told him of my game X and O X AND O
which has a similar type of play and my scoring for TOTALLY--
which is similar.
Another game on the 6x6 grid will be LOGI-QUAD.
(cont, on 10/30)
