THURSDAY 24 OCTOBER 1968
United Nations Day
298th day - 68 days to come
Audrey Pierce and Aileen Snoddy of Scripps-Haward syndicate here to intro
interview me, with a photographer who took a lot of pictures, Hour
long at least. Featured BAZAAR & ACQUIRE but Aileen asked lots of rough questions, that is thought provoking questions. Made a few
goofs. When she asked games I didn't like BB led me to mentioning LIFE.
Later I call told Aileen that it was no worse than many
other games that had a big production instead of a new idea. Also
I told her that SHAKESPEARE was just an expensive PARCHISI. Also showed her this year's diary, open to 3/20 with Arnold Shapiro's
address. It probably will be ok, tho. It will appear in the
X'Mas season, not in the New York area however. Aileen promised to
send me a tear sheet.
Alice called me before and then after the interview, she has
her 3rd quarter report from 3M : -
ACQUIRE $ 36,039.54 $1,441.58
BAZAAR $27,231.46 $1,089.26
VENTURE 0
MONAD 0
[total] = $2,530.84
Told Alice that Proctor & Gambel had used VENTURE as the name
of a simulation game, the then have no protection on it,
not even a valid copyright. We also agreed that we both didn't
like the name MONAD for INFINITE PLANE: She will write to
Will with these comments.
Felicia was wrong yesterday when she said that Alice had
spoken to Will lately and had heard from him that
EXECUTIVE DECISION wo had arrived. There is no word of this yet.
She located the letter from Bob Claude about THESE UNITED STATES.
It said that their examp examination had shown promise and
they expected that the test panels would confirm it.
She has written to Arnold Shapiro ask thanking him for their
check and also asking him confidentially if their game program
would ever get off the ground.
She is waiting to hear from Mr. Luongo of Selchow & Righter
about the BALI. They are taking their time. When she sees
him again she'll sound him out on looking at games now. She has
heard that he intends to make up a lot of their games himself,
but he did tell her he would be looking.
She expects that Mary Hilt of Whitman will be in soon
and we'll get together and show her some things.
Called Lee Horn. Not in. Told her secretary that Pierce and Snoddy were here
and for her to call me if she wanted to here about it, she never
called back.
BB and I played LE TRUC with 5 cards each. BB suggested letting each player
replace as many cards as they wish. This gave better hands and
was good. Did some writing. Played a couple of games with Morris
and he liked it.
