SATURDAY 19 OCTOBER 1968
JOURNEYS OF ST. PAUL
YEAR OF OUR LORD [Arrow connecting from 'Toys & Novelties".]
293rd day - 73 days to come
Finished writing up MATE.
TOYS & NOVELTIES came. Had 2
new religious games by A&H.
Doctored up a checkerboard for playing BLUE AND GRAY. BB & I played
a game. I won. Saw that it could be possible to reach an impasse.
Decided to make the captain who is further advanced the winner.
Looked thru my card file of patents and found two humerous ones.
Wrote an introduction and started the rules of BLUE AND GRAY.
At Floyd's bought STAR TREK. Saw an exact imitation of
INSTANT INSANITY from Hong Kong for 49 [cents]. Don't remember the name.
(cont. from 10/20) [10/21]
trump can be either one of the five numbers or the
set of triples. In a suit I am not sure of the order
but I am sure that the triple is the highest and I think
the doubles are next. Score 1 for each trick made up to
bid and two for each overtrick (I think), Don't know
penalty for set. (Rough idea) (Game sells for $12.)
At Spiegel's saw a series of by Fernal in England.
The following three seemed to be about the same. 2 sides
play. Each has a car without wheels. At start throw dice
and put on wheels for each 6 thrown. Once car is assembied
place it on a gadget, there is one for each side,
which has a path which unwinds like a scroll. Certain
spaces call for penalties etc. First to reach end of
scroll wins. RALLYE MONTE CARLO, VETERAN CAR GAME, INDIANOPOLIS.
SLALOM by Fernal also, consists of some fancy 3 dimensional
material but seems to be a simple dice race.
SHOW JUMPING by Fernal also is the same (I am pretty
sure) as the game I saw last year in B. Altman, (See 1967
diary.)
Looked for Sam's Book store, that Jim Dunnigan told me
about; couldn't find it. Later in evening called Jim. He
said it was probably Joe's. Later called information
and got : - Joe's Book Mart
Nassau at Park Row
CO 7-0448
Asked Jim about WAGONWHEEL CHESS. It has been written
up in an issue of STRATEGY & TACTICS. Chris Wagoner
said he would send me the backnumber editions as well
as a subscription.
Jim will come for another visit @ the end of November
and will try to get Chris to come along to discuss an
article by me.
