MONDAY 15 JULY 1968
St. Swithin's Day
197th day - 169 days to come
Called Felicia. Will bring VENTURE CAPITAL tomorrow, BB typed
the rules during day. I added diaqrams and finished
the new equipment.
Thought of Pencil and Paper word GAME. First version : -
At random from a book take a letters which are
put in a 3x3 grid. Players in turn add a letter next
to one already down. Using this letter but in any
position, they form the longest word they can, tracing
the letters in any direction, including diagonally.
Score for length of word. ( This will conflict with
RED LETTER. so I thought of another version).
Second version : - Start with the same 3x3 grid (later
reduced to 2x2) and in turn place new letters. Score
for each word formed using the new letter, either up and
down or side to side, or diagonally and also in either
direction. Cannot place an "s" which only ends a word, but
if it is used in one word in another position it also scores
for the "S" at the end of another word. A four 3 letter word
scores 5 points; 4 letters - 10 points; 5 letters -15 points;
6 letters - 20 points; etc. A word containing a "J", "Q", "X" or
"Z" scores double. If in one direction more than 1 word
can be formed, count the longest. Not every set of letters
must form a word, or even be capable of being formed
into a word.
Limit the size of the layout to an initial 13x13
grid (with 3x3 start) on 12x12 grid (with 2x2 start).
Play to a definite score.
Dale checked at stands on 42nd St and the Aug.
PSYCHOLOGY TODAY should be out about the beginning
of August.
