SATURDAY 1 JUNE
1968 153rd day - 213 days to come
At Honig's saw CLAREVOYANT (Majestic). Another fortune-telling device with
a pendulum and a board with the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and
yes-no (I believe).
At cross county bought 8 yards of contact - 4 colors.
At cross county saw "MATCHBOX" TRAFFIC GAME. There are 8 (I think)
destinations and a set of cards of the 8 for each player. These
are turned up one at a time and the player must reach that destin-
ation. There is a long path around the edge of the board which
doesn't have traffic lights. Inside of this there is a [crossed out]
shorter route with light. In the center there is a short path [crossed out]
on a rotatable platform and it is moved, a player may wait until
it is turned to a direction he likes, losing turn in the meantime.
When a player reaches a destination he measures, with a gadget,
the distance from the starting point. Player receives one point for
[crossed out] each mile. First to reach 8 destinations gets a bonus and
game is ended. (Rough, and probably not completely accurate, idea.)
Fixed up the rules for INFINITE PLANE by pasting over new paragraphs.
Went over some further pages of STRATEGOS.
At Midge's played RUMMY ROYAL (Whitman). 8 of us played.
2 to 8 can play. There is a layout with the following pots:-
789 (any suit), [heart] 10, [heart] J, [heart] Q, [heart] K, [heart] A, [heart] Q, & [heart] K, "Pot", "Kitty". Each
player chips one chip to each of the 9 pots. The dealer deals
the cards around, starting with 2 hands for himself, until the
deck is exhausted. The dealer [crossed out] looks at one of his
hands and may take the other, provided he doesn't have a
money card. If he doesn't wish the other hand he offers it
to the highest bidder, who also may not have a money card.
The player taking the extra hand starts the betting on the
poker hand. Checking, passing, betting, raising & seeing is as in
POKER. In determining the hands each player can use any 5
cards from his hand. The winner takes the "Pot."
The poker winner starts by playing out his lowest card.
Play continues as in MICHEGAN RUMMY until stopped by a
missing card or the ace is reached. The player stopped
then plays the lowest card of the opposite color (black-red).
If out of that color play passes to the left. As players
play money cards they collect the proper pot.
When a player plays out he collects the "Kitty" and
1 chip for each card remaining in the other player's hands.
Uncollected pots remain for the next hand. Deal rotates
to the left.
At the end of play any uncollected pots are own by a
round of poker dealt face up, with no betting.
There is provision for betting on who will receive the aces,
