FRIDAY 24 MAY
1968 145th day - 221 days to come
To Stationery Show again.
Stopped at Beylerian Limited which listed "adult games." What
they had was a series of artistic pastimes such as CUBISMO
which was a set of 64 cubes with designs on the 6 faces.
No two cubes were alike altho designs were repeated. It sells
for $20. There are similar sets consisting of squares which
can be arranged in different patterns.
To Stelladar Inc. Saw their game MEM. It is played on a board
as shown with 32 oversized GO stones. The
stones are of 10 different colors with a break-
down as follows (I am fairly sure)
8-7-3-3-3-2-2-2-1-1.
[drawing of square with one row of 4, four rows of 6, and one row of 4 circles]
The stones are placed at ramdom [random] on the
board. The board is molded plastic and the stones
quickly fit into the recesses. Players in turn
remove a piece and place in a pattern in front
of them. Object is to form a pattern in front of him that
matches a pattern which is on the board isolated from the
rest of the pieces. Patterns are two or more pcs. that are
connected orthogonally and they are considered isolated even
if they touch other pieces diagonally. The colors do not have
to match - only the pattern of colors. (The two patterns shown
are considered matching.) When a player has a match he
removes the pattern from the board and
adds it to his hand pattern and places
them to one side. He then takes another turn.
[drawing of circles, some colored in]
A player can prevent his opponent from taking a piece
that is part of the pattern on the board that he actually has
in his hand at that time. He points out the correspondence and
then must take that group or if unable may not do any further matching.
Play continues until all pieces are removed and each player keeps
all pieces he took, even if they weren't used for matching. Winner
is player with most pieces. (Ad sheet in 1968 ad clips.)
Gary & Reidel
RENDEZVOUS IN SPACE ( Idezer Corp., St. Louis, Mo. 63102) [See 1967
Ad clips for picture] Object is for partners to rendezvous
in space and then to procede to a destination. With less
players a player can operate the two ships that must
meet. Can change orbits by landing on an intersection.
Moves are determined by a battery operated "Computer."
THE GAME OF VOCABULARY (Advanced Ideas, Arlington, Mass. (c) 1968)
This is a book with the rules and pages of vocabulary
lists and a spinner mounted on the inside cover. Players in
turn spin to determine a page and column. Then they pick
the hardest word they know in that column. Other players in turn
can try to define the word and then others can challenge.
The value of the word increases depending on the distance of
any player involved from the player whose turn it is.
