Saturday 18 May 1968
Armed Forces Day 139th day - 227 days to come
Finished the overlays for STATEMENT. Showed it to Helen Sternburg and
Annette. They thought it good.
Played FREE FORM with different grouping of the Weir crowd. They
were enthusiastic about it.
Called Jim Morgan at his hotel. Not in and he called me back.
Bill Caruson & Bob Claude not coming this trip. Will Erickson will be in
Monday. Jim will call me Monday night about the two of them coming to
visit me.
They didn't have time to add my rules for PENALTY BAZAAR. Possibly
they will add it after the first edition of about 26,000
is finished. BAZAAR, together with THINKING MAN'S GOLF, are the
most popular lunch time pursuits at their office.
They like all my suggestions for FOIL and are [crossout]
testing it with them. PHLOUNDER is probably on the way out.
PHLOUNDER may be included in that. Jim says that it is hard for
any word game to compete against SCRABBLE.
Their first look at EXECUTIVE DECISION is encouraging.
Frank Thibault's REGATTA went national at the same time as
BAZAAR.
They rejected Alex Randolph's PICKWICK (too close to TANGLE).
They are interested in MAD MATE.
(cont. from 5/23) [5/22]
Called Claude. Not in and spoke to Anne about the stationery
show, and about 3M.
Arthur called. Told him about show & 3M. He showed his
HIGH DECK manuscript to Viking. They are interested and
will show it to Oswald Jacobi for his evaluation.
Short letter from Haar Hoolim.
Jim Morgan asked me how I had made out with Stancraft.
(Yesterday I had told him I was going to see Rockwell,
the booths were next to each other.) I told him that
I was showing [crossout] them some simple peg games, thru
another agent. This was just between the two of us.
I asked Alice if she'd mind if I showed AIRLINE to someone
else and she said "just about everyone has seen it so
go ahead." I took it back with me to show to Phil Orbanes.
I asked Jim Morgan if he could send me a copy of REGATTA to
keep my collection complete. Sure.
