Sunday 12 May 1968
Mother's Day 133rd day - 233 days to come
Fourth Sunday after Easter
Got the map of the U.S. copied onto cardboard. Tried the
"Empires" version of STATEMENT by myself. Needs some bugs
to be ironed out. One rule - if a player does not have a state
showing that he can use on his turn, he loses the turn. In
neither player can use a card, all the top cards are moved to
the bottom of their columns.
(cont. from 5/11) [5/12]
Spaces landed on direct players to take drinks or remove
clothing. A candle and candle holder is included. Game is
supposed to be played by candlelight and when a player is
directed to remove his (her) last piece of clothing, he blows
out the candle before doing so.
Adler's Foreign Books, Inc.:- I asked if they had any books on
games. He said not in stock but they have catalogs of
books in print for different countries and could order for me.
162 Fifth Ave.
New York, N.Y. 10010
Tel:- 691-5151
Wodiska Sales Co.:- MAGNETIC WORD SCRAMBLE. Board with
spaces for different letters, including some wild spaces. Dart
gun. each player shoots to get 5 letters, then in a
time limit to form the most words.
Lowe:- WIT'S END. A puzzle to put together connected cube pcs.
Doesn't seem to be the same as SOMA.
TAK-TIC - same as the English game check lines (see 1967).
S.J. Miller:- KABOODLE I - a set of 4 puzzles played with vinel [vinyl/vinet?]
pcs. on a vinel [vinyl/vinet?] board.
Met Dale and Nick Politis of 3M public relations. He took us for
dinner to the Tower Suite atop the Time Life Bldg. Then to Cheetah
for auction. Too many things were in the catalog. (I was 55
out of 114 and I didn't go on until close to 12.) I was called
to describe the lot. The 12 games plus my instructions went for
$40.
There was a demonstration of the BUMP BALL which is now
put out by Milton Bradley.
Nick told me that Bill Bentzin was being promoted to a position
back in St. Paul.
I told Nick that I didn't have a copy of 3M's FACTS IN FIVE
and he said he'd send me one.
Marylin called BB to tell her about an antique dealer she met.
Her name is Jo Ann McCormick and she is writing a thesis
(cont. on 5/10)
