Saturday 11 May 1968
132nd day - 234 days to come
(cont. from 5/19) [5/21]
First to successfully lay down ten cards wins the ante. (Fairly
complete rules.)
Met Jim Morgan & Will Erickson @ the 3M booth. BAZAAR and
REGATTA, as well as the EduPlaytional line, being new was
featured.
They took me to a long lunch then to Jim's room at the American
Hotel, where we talked about games.
VENTURE CAPITAL:- They like the idea of the game but some of the
test players thought it somewhat slow. They thought that more
"money cards" and less "proxy fight' and "bankrupt cards" would
help. They are at present getting more opinions and then
may send it back to me for more work.
HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME:- Test panel found they spent more
time counting than playing. Returned it to me.
EXECUTIVE DECISION:- Jim thinks that it is good but all the paper
work is too much like work. I told him that pcs. could be
used for raw material and for finished product. Later told
him I would send some to him.
STATEMENT:- Showed it to them as far as I went & they liked
it. Want me to get a finished set in as soon as possible. I
said about 3 weeks. Will said he likes the way I prepare
models. They didn't think the name "Statement" would be too
good for children.
FREE FOR ALL:- Played a game which Will won. They liked it and
want me to Alice to send it in with a form.
WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU?:- Played the 3-hand static version. They found
it pleasant but rather bland. Decided that we'd hold up on
sending it to them.
Will wants me to look at Jake William's FACTOR and also to a
variant of a standard card GAME. I brought up the idea of
getting a piece of the action if I did creative work on a game
they send me to evaluate. Will thought it sounded fair. They'll
have to work out a procedure for getting the inventor to agree
to giving me a slice, say 10%, of his royalty. They will look
into it further.
Jim asked me some questions about MAH JONG and wondered about
the advisability of putting out a set. I told him about
TRIAD and he is interested in seeing it. Later thought of using
special cards. The four suits could be as follows:-
[drawing of red square, red circle, blue square, blue circle]. This will allow doubles for all [drawn square] or all [drawn circle].
Asked Jim about what happens to the other player's ballots when
a player wins a debate. Answer - the winner casts them all.
(Later looked at rules again and saw that it was pretty clear.)
Taxi back to show with Jim. Will wasn't feeling well.

BUMPS AND GRINDS:- Path game to be played by mixed company.
