Thursday 29 February 1968
60th day - 306 days to come
After work went to:-
Slesar & Kanzer
880 3rd Ave
to see Theron Raines & Henry Slesar and Henry's game -
WORD CHECKERS. There is an 8x10 quadrille board and each
player has 32 letter discs with the following letter distribution:-
EEEEAAAOOOIIIUUBCDFGHLMNPRSTTVWY. The letters
are set face-up in 4 rows of 8 at each end.
An ordinary move is one space straight forward. A move that ends in
making a word can be one space straight forward or diagonally forward.
It can also be a jump or series of jumps, also straight or diagon-
ally forward. Jumps are over one piece at a time and only over
a player's own pc.
When a player finishes his move in a position where he can
form a word using the piece moved, at least one of his
opponent's pieces and more of his own pieces if desired he
takes off all the pieces in the word formed. The letters
can be in any position as long as they can be followed from
space to space adjacent either orthogonally or diagonally.
The piece moved can be in any position in the word. A
letter disc can only be used once in the word. Minimum length
of word is 2.
If a player moves one of his pieces all the way across
the board he takes it off and it scores for him. When a
player cannot make a move, either because all his pieces
are off the board of because those remaining are blocked,
the game is over.
I suggested keeping the captured pieces in piles of 5 so
that the state of the score was immediately apparent.
The board of the game was divided into spaces using a
black tape about 16" thick. I asked Henry where he got
it and he [word crossed out] said he's send me the company's name. It
supplies material for company record boards.
Rcd. letter from Jim Morgan. Sent $150 check for FOIL report.
Are not working on EXECUTIVE DECISION until BAZAAR and another
game are completed. He and Bill Caruson will be in town for
Stationery Show and we'll get together.
Claude called. He finally got to see Paul Milazzo. He got check for
$134 after going over the books. Paul is dropping BIG FUNERAL.
The only place it sold was at the Yale book store - a couple of dozen.
He is continuing with WATCH but is discouraged. The big stores,
especially Gimbels just don't pay their bills.
Claude got a WATCH game for me.
