WEDNESDAY 10 JANUARY
1968 10th day - 356 days to come
Called up Playthings about a subscription for 3M. I misunderstood
them before when I thought the 1967 Directory was thrown
in with $2 subscription. Actually it costs another $1. I told them
to send it all for $3.
Went to Childcraft to pick up a catalog for 3M. Also looked at the
games and saw A BIG TRAIN GAME (P.) There are 30 tiles with
a single track that either runs from side to side across
the tile or between adjacent sides. The tracks have railroad
cars in various combinations of 4 colors. Some tiles have
cabooses and some have engines. Players in turn draw a tile and place
it on the talbe, if they feel unless they feel it doesn't have
enough of their color, in which case they can discard it. If a
tile doesn't fit onto the line I think the rules said that it
could be put aside and another one drawn. This doesn't seem to
have much point. When a caboose or engine is drawn it
must be played unless it doesn't fit. When an engine and
caboose have been added the game is over. Each player gets
1 pt. for each car in the completed train.
Thinking of a game, tentative name DIRECTION. It is played
on a pencil and paper quadrille - 6 x 6. The rows and
columns are numbered as shown. Players
in turn throw 3 dice and choose a row, column,
and direction corresponding. Object is to
complete a line in your color from one edge
to an oposite edge. Tried this out by myself and it
didn't have any form.
[diagram of asterisk made with 4 lines; clockwise from top: 1, 2, 3, 4]
Arthur called. Nothing new. The contact he has thinks that
their balancing GAME is as good as sold and that
he can get HIGH DECK published in Europe.
Finished the letter to Alex Randolph and copied it.
