SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 1968
Feast of the Epiphany
6th day - 360 days to come
Rcd. a letter from Haar Hoolim. Had a carbon of a letter to
Martin Kruskal. Also rules for a new game,
THE GAME OF APPROACH.
Looked at Korvette's in Pelham. Nothing in games.
(cont. from 1/11) [1/11]
A diagonal line reaching the side presented a problem as to
which box it scored in. Decided to score only for horiz-
ontal lines hitting the side.
Thought of doubling the "side" score of the player first
reaching the end. Then decided to score for reaching the end
by a vertical line. End the game when the 3 "end" scores
have been taken. High score wins the difference between scores.
Needs testing.
Thought of including this game in the book with a descrip-
tion of its development.
Sent a letter to Harry Cunningham at 3M telling him about
the subscription to Playthings. Told him I was sending the
catalogs and said that I had spent 3 hours.
The book SKARNEY came. Actually it is a CANASTA
variation.
Thinking of the possibility of using SKILL BACKGAMMON in
the book. This played by using dominoes to determine
the move, instead of dice. The blanks are removed from
a double 6 set and the remaining 21 dominoes are placed
in 3 columns of 7 each. Players in turn can play the top (which
is designated) of a column. The played domino is placed at
the bottom of the columns, starting with the one on the left,
then the next, etc, so that the bottom grow uniformly
regardless of how the tops are played.
