Monday 24 June 1963,
St. John Baptist,
175th day - 190 days to come
Brought DATA to I/S.
The Amberstones joined us.
Played their game of PASSAGE.
[DETAILED DIAGRAM OF THE BOARD SET UP FOR PASSAGE. 15 RED PCS AND 15 GREEN PIECES ARRANGED IN TRIANGLE FORMATIONS WITH ROWS OF 1,2,3,4, &5 ARRANGED SO THAT THE ROWS OF 1 FACE ONE ANOTHER AT A POINT. ALSO 2 TRIANGULAR ARRANGEMENTS OF 10 WHITE PIECES EACH. SACKSON MADE A NOTE SAYING "WHY NOT A ROW IN HERE? REFERRING TO THE SPACE BEHIND THE ROW OF FOUR IN ONE OF THE GROUPS OF WHITE PIECES - WHERE A ROW OF FIVE PIECES WOULD PRESUMABLY BE PLACED.
AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES OF THE PLAYFIELD THERE ARE RECTANGULAR SPACES SPANNING THE WIDTH OF THE PLAYFIELD. THE BOTTOM ONE CONTAINS A SINGLE BLACK CIRCLE (THE CUE DISC)]
Each player has 15 pcs. started as shown [IN THE DIAGRAM]. Each player in turn moves all, or as many as possible, forward, turning them over to a dotted side as he does. On the next turn go to undotted. After moving the player shoots the cue disc (black in picture) with a cue trying to knock one or more of opponent's pcs. off their spots. At beginning of game the cue disc is started behind the base line of player moving. After that it is played from wherever it lies.
Pcs. shot off spots are put behind a player's base line from which they are reentered on a player's back row on his next move.
The object is to advance a pre-chosen number of a player's pcs. passed [sic] the opponent's baseline.
RACE GAME (No other name)
A car race game played on a board as follows.
Played with cards 1-2-3-4, most 1's and least 4's, and 2 "Accident" cards.
[DIAGRAM OF A GAME BOARD DEPICTING A RACE TRACK WITH 4 LANES LAID OUT AS AN OVAL COURSE. FOUR "PIT" AREAS ARE LABELED. TWO ON THE TOP EDGE, TWO ON THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE BOARD.]
Players have a hand of cards which are played out and then a new hand dealt. Can move as many spaces as card played except that cannot move passed a line except on first count of a move. Can move diagonally on the straightaway but cannot move into the space directly in front of another player.
