Tuesday 17 August 1965
229th day - 136 days to come
In Brattleboro, Vt. saw the following games in a store : -
SKI GAMMON : - Have this but (American Publ. Co.) Have
this but without instructions. The new edition has a
plastic board in a round box.
BLOTTO : - (American Publ. Co.) Quadrille board in general diamond
shape (see sketch).
[SMALL DIAGRAM OF SQUARES ARRANGED IN 3 ROWS. 5 ACROSS THE BOTTOM, 3 ACROSS THE MIDDLE, AND 1 AT THE TOP CENTER. 'etc.' PRINTED BELOW]
Each player uses a liquor glass - filled -
as a token. Start from edge and object is to move
to one of the two center squares. Players all have a
number of wood blocks (amount varying with number
of players) which they use to block an opponent. These
are placed on the line between squares. Once placed
they cannot be passed or removed. A player cannot be
completely surrounded or his path to the center completely
blocked.
Moves are made one space at a time (probably only orthogonally)
and jumps can be made as in HALMA.
Last one in loses (and has to drink the drinks?). (Rules not complete)
At Johnson's in Springfield bought : -
DANGER PASS (House of Ideas)
DON'T MISS THE BOAT (Parker)
4 packages of
MONOPOLY money.
August Playthings came.
Rcd. a package of FOCUS instructions from Whitman.
Rcd. card from Paul Greenough.
