THURSDAY 22 JULY
1965 203rd day - 162 days to come
Rcd. letter from Fr. Daniel.
Alice here. Played AIRLINE. She didn't care too much for it
but doesn't care for this type of game. BB and Dana
also played. I won.
Realized that my scale of prices for using the "Purchase
Order" made it easy to use the it for hurting an opponent
but difficult to use for helping oneself. Think that the
following would be preferable:- Use of a "purchase order"
would always cost $250 except if an opponent's line is
being broken (regardless of whether nationwide, E-W, or N-S-
in other words, if the price for a hop is reduced) then the
price is $500.
Also saw that it would simplify many possible sticky
situations if a player is prohibited from ever acquiring
a hop or 2 hops that are froze out at the time of
acquisition. Thus if a hop is up for bids that only one
player can use, he gets it automatically for $50. Also
in case of a freeze-out that only one player can use,
the owner must sell it to him for $50 a hop, if he
wishes to take them. If the one who can use them doesn't
wish them, they are returned to the bank with no
compensation.
Except at the forementioned freezeout or in case of
a bankruptcy, hops are never returned to the bank.
Gave Alice back all the material from Norval B. Strachan
and the one game by Roger Kuehl.
Also gave her a copy of the 3M ad proofs & the 3M
submission form.
Alice wrote to Parker Bros. saying that she received
the model of SIT DOWN AND THINK. Also said that she
was disappointed that they didn't take it. Said that
she was going to play AIRLINE tonight, which I think
is my best game. She doesn't think they'd care
for it since, frankly, there is a resemblance to
MONOPOLY. She is interested because there is some of
the flavor of POKER in it. (Which she didn't see when
she played it.)
She also will write to Bill Caruson about SIT DOWN AND THINK.
She rcd. a letter from Fr. Daniel. She asked me to take
another look @ FORMATION. Said I would.
Decided that I would write to Hank Simmons at
Parker and would try to go up to speak to him and
also to bring him the new DATA.
Alice spoke to Al Vogel of Sales Management Magazine.
