At the Belgian Village at the World's Fair (of all place) saw
NAVAL BATTLE GAME. There were diagrams from a patent
in Spanish (don't know which country) and a very poor
translation into English.
The board is circular with about 12 concentric circles
around an unused center space. There are about 24 spaces
in a circle, more on the outside, less on the inside. One
radius is heavy and cannot be passed. The 24 spaces (2
lines) on either side of this are the starting base for each
of the players. Each player has 24 ships of 4 (or 5) differ-
ent types. The different types seem to have the same move
and capture, with different point values. In some way
ships in the same ring block each other while captures
are made by landing in the space above or below.
Moves are made with throw of 2 dice, but in some areas
only one can be used. There are certain areas marked
with the numbers 1 to 6. If a player throws a double
2 (for instance) all ships opponent has in the space marked
"2" are considered bombed and destroyed.
(Probably) play until one player has all his remaining
ships brought to their base position in opponent's
starting line. Score for ships brought to base, half
as much for ships not in base, fall value for captured
ships
Under some conditions ships can move to adjacent ring
if an opponent is in the way.
