THURSDAY 11 FEBRUARY
Thomas Alva Edison, Born 1847 1965 42nd day - 323 days to come
The fellows at the office played a PINOCHLE variant that
I hadn't seen.
3 play - 16 cards are dealt to each (the complete deck). Bidding
starts with 25. If no one bids the dealer gets bid for
18. High bidder, or dealer, sets trump. All players score for
their melds and their points taken in play (with one ex-
ception mentioned later). If high bidder does not equal his
bid he goes down the ammount of his bid, others score
(individual scores are kept for each player). If the dealer
decides not to play he goes down 18 but others score noth-
ing.
Scoring values:-
MELDS{
4 A - 10; 8 A - 100
4 K - 8; 8 K - 80
4 Q - 6; 8 Q - 60
4 J - 4; 8 J - 40
MARRIAGE - 2; IN TRUMP 4
PINOCHLE - 4; DOUBLE PINOCHLE - 30 (SOME PLAY ONLY 8)
ROUND HOUSE - 24
TRUMP RUN - 15
9 OF TRUMP - 1
POINT VALUES - A, 10, K - 1 pt. EACH (NO OTHER SCORES).
Can also be played by 4 players - each for himself. Open-
ing bid is 18 and dealer must take it for 12.
Sent letter to 3M tax department telling them of lost
letter & giving my Social Security number.
Rcd. letter from Warren Buell. He has played ACQUIRE and
likes the new rules.
Sent a clipping about Parker Brothers.
Another about the book GAMES PEOPLE PLAY by Eric Berne. These
are not games in my sense but social relationships.
Sent copy of the magazine ad in which he & his daughter
appeared.
