Friday 17 July 1964
199th day - 167 days to come
NYGA meeting @ [at] the Amberstones'. Bob & Helen not there.
Played 2 games of LINES using a later set of
rules.
Lines must & can be started at an end points (see 1/17/64) with
one exception - a pieces can not be placed between two points
with opponent's pcs. at them unless the player playing it
also has a pc. at at [duplicate word] least one of the points.
[A drawing of dots, some connected with solid and dotted lines]
[arrow pointing to drawing] This can not be played unless
there is a white pc. at,
say, the dotted position.
[arrow pointing down] continued [arrow pointing down]
Bridging can be made between a point with one's
own pc. to a point with an opponent's pc. as well as
between two points with own pcs.
Captures have been added. They are the same as in
THREE (1/17/64). When a capture position (180 degrees [symbol]) is set up
a capture must be made. If more than one pc. is in position
to be taken, the player playing can have his choice. The player
whose piece was taken can not make a play that will give
a capture at the sane point but may play even in the
same spot if no capture results. This prohibition applies only
on the next move after the capture (ko situation).
Scoring, prohibition of small equilateral triangles, and prohi-
bition of play inside an enclosure is as in (1/17/64).
It is not permissible to capture a piece which forms part
of an enclosure.
Each player only plays one piece on a turn (not 2 as the
1/17/64 version).
Wald showed a new gambling game EL DORADO. All it is
is a device for betting on an even chance, such as the flip
of a coin, and allowing the bet to remain and pyramid as
long as desired or, of course, until a loss. Just about the
same as betting on red or black in roulette and letting it ride.
The house odds of the 0 & 00 are, or course, removed as is the
house limit.
Played my CARD STOCK MARKET. Worked well for a first try.
However the market usually tends to go down. Same possible
correctives:-
1) Allow an upward jump of 4 points while keeping the
downward jump to a maximum of 2. With this elim-
inate the unstabalizing effect of the Jack. Instead
use the Jack for a "stock bonus". When played each
player who has any of the suit can take one card
from the market value pile, except the top. The first
choice goes to the player playing the jack (if he owns
the stock) and then to the left until all entitled to
