Helen & Bob over. They played two games of FOCUS
& liked it. Later Bob & I played a real tight game
which he won.
Bob told me of a War Game made up by an Israeli
captain which his publisher had him look at. It was
played on a board which contained 6 sectors arranged
in a ring around an empty space in the center. Each
sector contained about 30 circles connected by lines to
each other and to circles in the adjoining 2 sectors.
The lines were arranged so that straight lines of various
lengths were obtained, some connecting only two circles,
up to others connecting many.
Each player has (some) 12 pcs. - 6 infantry,
4 tanks, 2 airplanes. These are set up in his sector
at the start. Infantry can move up to 2 spaces but can
turn. Tanks can move up 4 spaces but only in a straight
line. Airplanes can move as far as they wish on a straight line.
Captures are replacement captures except that they
cannot be made unless there is a space open beyond them
into which the capturing pc. could have moved as part
of a straight line short of long leap.
If an enemy pc. is completely surrounded it switches
sides to that of the surrounding pcs.
2, 3, 4, or 6 may play. If a player occupies an
opponent's capital circle he gains possession of all
that player's remaining pcs. Play until only 1 player
is left.
Each player in a turn can move up to 6 pcs.
This is only a rough idea of the game - all that Bob
remembered. It seems as if it could be interesting.
The Shells were here with their kids. They, with Dale,
BB, and I played one game of BLOCKHEAD.
