SATURDAY 14 MARCH
1964 74th day - 292 days to come
Claude showed me his game of SUDDEN DEATH. It is played on
a 4 x 4 quadrille. The spaces are each marked with
a color (6 different I think). Each player has a token.
The first player places his token in any space, the 2nd
in any space except one of the same color as the first.
After that move 1 space orthagonally. Object:- to move
into the same space as opponent or one of the [crossed out] same color.
Also showed me BOTTLE. Played on 4 x 3 quadrille,
each space being numbered from 1 to 4. Each player has
three tokens. These are placed on the board alternately.
Then in turn move a piece t players move one of their
pieces the number of space it is resting in. Moves
are othognal but they may zig-zag. A piece cannot pass thru
or end on a space occuppied by another piece, friendy
or enemy. Object to "bottle" the opponent so that he cannot
move.
Played 4 handed SPECTRUM. Anne had trouble understanding
it, but it was late and the kids were still up, which
distracted her.

WA-HOO- Variation of parchisi played with marbles on a
path with holes.
Watkins-Strathmore Co. Inc.
PEEKO- Word game played with special board having slide
windows for each letter of the alphabet and one other
giving the par. There are 24 cards which have set ups for
words, 8 per card (each edge of both sides). A card is
put in at random. The player guesses a letter (normally starting
with vowels) and opens the window. If this letter is part of
the word there is a number, from 1 to 5, showing its location.
If it is a double letter there are two numbers. If the letter
is not in the word the space is blank. Continue counting gues-
sing letters until the word is complete, keeping count of the
guesses (by the number of open windows). Compare the num-
ber of guessed letters with the par behind the par window.
