22 Saturday - December 1973
First day of winter - 356th day - 9 days to come
With Sears bill a folder was included listing the following:
CHESS, BACKGAMMON, SPACE PROBE, PHILOSOPHER'S KNOT,
MINI CUBE, GEO-LOGIC PUZZLES, I CHING, and others. (Filed
in '73 Misc. [1973 miscellaneous])
Began thinking of changing FOREIGN INTRIGUE, getting rid
of the "conferences." Made a set of 3 cards each for
the first four spy names. Will need the next two also -
since I intend the game for 6 players. Prepared a set
of 48 assignment cards out of the existing 60. Arranged
to have cards removed so that there are 8 per player regardless
of the number of players - from 3 to 6.
Wrote short cards to Jerry D'Arcey and Frank Thibault.
Rcd. [received] card from Gini Scott. Mentioned HOLIDAY and (I believe)
THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS, and that Skor-Mor and 3M are considering
some of hers.
Rcd. [received] a short card from Jerry D'Arcey and from Odette Willis -
with Lucien Vittet. {Odette Willis [address]
Sent card to Gini Scott. Mentioned TURNABOUT, SCREWBALL,
OH FUDGE, CHOCOLAT, HOLIDAY, S&T, PATTON, THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS,
FITTING & PROPOER, and SIMULATION/GAMING/NEWS.
Sent short cards to Gene Primoff (see 12/14) and Odette Willis.
Sent card to Mike Alber, Included a repro [reproduction] of my S&T #41 with
BILLIONAIRE, GRAPPLE, FLUSTER, and BOGGLE. Mentioned BOOK WORLD.
Sent card to Mary Hilt. Mentioned ODD OR EVEN, Richard Moon & S&T.
Call from Bob Abbott. Graeme Levin has placed Bob's game of
EPAMINONDAS with Philmar (spelling?) on a 50-50 basis.
Graeme has also found a publisher who wants to do
ABBOTT'S NEW CARD GAMES, but Stein and Day want it to be
handled thru them.
Bob is working on changes in ELEUSIS. Each player can play
up to 5 cards at one time and as long as all played are correct.
I believe that wrong ones are left in place, similar to DELPHI.
A player making a mistake takes a penalty of extra cards. I
pointed out that this still won't remedy the problem of a player
who knows, or thinks he knows, the rule but doesn't have the
cards that fit.
Bob would like to come up with something original in games
but at present is only working on refining the games in
his book, including BABEL - with the thought of a revised
edition.
He played SIGMA FILE with a Mensa group and they like it.
He found that often there was no incentive to do anything.
