14 Friday - December 1973
348th day - 17 days to come
Rcd. [received] X'Mas [Christmas] cards from Mike Alber & Gene Primoff of
Quantra Development Corp. - BEAT-THE-COMPUTER.
Read over a book on MACARTHUR. Found 4 possible battles
to use: "Retreat to Bataan," "New Guinea," "Invasion of Luzon,"
"Landing at Inchon." (Actually the same 4 that Al Nofi
suggested on 9/17.) Called Bob Champer and left word to have
him call me for his ideas on which 3 to take.
(cont. from 12/15) [12/18]
Felicia called and spoke to BB while I was out. She wanted to give a
game as a gift and asked BB whether she should give
FITTING & PROPER and THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS. BB at first suggested
HOLIDAY, which Felicia ignored, and then said that
THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS was more colorful.
[arrow pointing to paragraph above and paragraph below] [started 12/18]
Met Bob Champer and, with Al Nofi's help, he picked out three
books from me to use for MACARTHUR:- "The Fall of the
Philippines" and "Victory in Papua" - both from the Dept. [Department] of the
Army - and "The Korean War," a paperback by Matthew Ridgway.
Borrowed them, leaving charge slips.
We'll both read up on the 3 battles and he'll call me after
New Year.
(cont. from 12/19) [12/19]
again in about a week. || Pierre also would like Martin to do LE LIVRE DES JEUX.
Pierre has been making a living with his writing, not having
had any success with games themselves. He has just completed
a book on the TAROT - the games that are played with it
(at least that was the impression I got). He said that games with
the TAROT deck - one will be packaged with his book - are popular in
France. He is working on a book of self I-Q testing. He is
familiar with the ones published here. He is finally going to finish
do a book on solitaire games which he has had in mind for some
time. I gave him permission to use COMBINATION (which he
wasn't familiar with) if he wishes and told him it was in
S&T about #21.
He has an article coming out in SCIENCE ET VIE - can't
remember the topic - which I asked him to send me a repro [reproduction]
of.
At the end of the our conversation I again brought up that I'd
like to keep sending him copies of S&T rather than his
subscribing - so that I won't feel guilty asking him to
send me things. He'll think about it and we'll talk about
it when he calls me next week.
