Playing around with a new layout for
(cont. from 11/23) [12/6]
Showed Martin the picture I have of Springbok's PENTOMINOES.
Showed him my THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS and FITTING & PROPER
for the format. Actually he has a copy of SWEEP which
Philpott sent to him. (He would have brought it to me
but he thought I had it.)
He did think that my two puzzle - games were unique.
Showed him PATTON and HOLIDAY. (Also showed all 4
to Charlotte.)
He noticed Lech Pijanowski's DUODOMINO. Someone has sent him
a translation and analysis of it. It comes out the same
as NITTY GRITTY.
He looked thru all my books He looked thru all my books
and I kept urging him to borrow any he was interested in.
He found a number of things in PIONERSKAJA IGROTEKA
and when one of these, a key that can only fit in one
position on a nest of pegs, needed copying he agreed to
take it. He wanted to mail it right back but I asked him
to please hold it until we get together - I don't want to
take the chance of losing it in the mail.
He also copied the name, in Russian, of
PROBLEMS - BRAINBUSTERS - DRAWINGS. A friend might be
interested in obtaining a copy from Russia (he has connections)
and selling Dover on a translation.
Martin Bernstei suggested two books I might be interested
in: THEORY OF GAMBLING & STATISTICAL LOGIC by David Bernstein
(which has a section on actual games) and
MATHEMATICAL PUZZLES (FOR BEGINNERS AND ENTHUSIASTS) by
Geoffrey Mott-Smith. (Later discovered that I had it.)
(cont. on 11/20)
