30 Saturday - June 1973
181st Day - 184 Days to Come
Rcd. [received] a letter from Graeme Levin of G&P. Mentioned
ACQUIRE, FEUDAL, TWIXT, EXECUTIVE DECISION, SLEUTH,
PLOY, THINKING MAN'S GOLF, AGOG.
Rcd. [received] a package from Canada with HABITAT and GROOVE and
the two versions of KGB. (The boxes for my puzzles
will have to be done over.)
Started working on S&T column #39. Did MONTAGE, REALM, and
started CARTEL.
(cont. from 7/2) [7/2]
the luck of the dice throw or the drawing of a card.
After I said it she sort of agreed, but said that it was
attractively done and that Hallmark was looking for a
MONOPOLY type. I asked if Hallmark had seen LOTTERY and
she said yes. (At home I checked and saw that in '72
she had written to Bob Johnson about it, but have no record
of his answer, if any.)
SNOOP - A card game played with 40 cards, 2 each of
the following combinations of 3, out of 6, colors.
[The letters Y, O, R, G, B, and V are arranged into three rows with the letters aligned to form groups of 3 as columns. The letters are in the following groups: YOR; YOG; YOB; YOV; YRG; YRB; YRV; YGB; YGV; YBV; ORG; ORB; ORV; OGB; OGV; OBV; RGB; RGV; RBV; GBV]
When 2 play or 3 play each is deal 7 cards as a hand
and one "objective." This tells him the colors and positions
he is trying to get. Play as in Rum RUMMY until all the
cards are exhausted. The players then score 2 points for
each color on a card in the right position - same as on
their "objective," and 1 point for each color in wrong position.
(There seems to be a strong advantage to having Y and V
since they are always in the right position.) For making
a certain number of points a player gets a bonus as
follows: 26 points [arrow] 4 points
27 " [arrow] 8 "
28 " [arrow] 12 "
29 " [arrow] 16 "
30 " [arrow] 20 "
Before actually counting the score each player tries to
guess his opponent's "objective." For being correct he
scores as follows:
[information is arranged in a table with column 1 [1] showing the objectives, column 2 [2] shows the score for a 2 or 3 player game, column 3 [3] shows the score for a 4 player game]
[1] 1 color out of position [2] 5 points [3] 10 points
[1] 2 colors out of position [2] 10 points [3] 20 points
[1] 1 color in position [2] 10 points [3] 20 points
[1] 1 color in position & 1 out of position [2] 20 points [3] 30 points
[1] 2 colors in position [2] 30 points [3] 40 points
[1] 3 colors in position [2] 50 points [3] 70 points
When 4 play they play as partners. Each gets 5 cards
(cont. on 6/29)
