27 WEDNESDAY - JUNE 1973
178TH DAY - 187 DAYS TO COME
In Simpson's, Toronto, bought the following : - CHERCLES (which
is the same game as DAFT DRAUGHTS) for $2.50. (Put out
by Parker of Canada.). COVER UP for $3.98. (Put out by Parker
of Canada.) (At home discovered that a piece was missing.)
WORD MAKING AND WORD TAKING (Spears) for $1.69.
Saw HARNESS RACING (Lowe), CHAOS (Parker of Canada,
instead of Lakeside), HI-SPOT (Parker of Canada, instead of Pressman).
Saw WIDE WORLD (Parker of Canada) which seems to be similar
to the game WIDE WORLD TRAVEL GAME that I have. The spaces
(I believe) are smaller and there are more of them. There is
also a "Weather Guide." This is a plastic sheet that covers
1/4 of the board. With a certain throw (don't remember
what) the "Guide" is moved one quarter to the next quarter
clockwise. Any planes on it are carried along. If one is
now in the same position as one that was there before the
move, the one there is moved to an adjacent space.
Saw ADMIRALS (Parker of Canada). It seems to be patterned
on the game BATTLE STATIONS! by John E. Burleson, which
is subtitled - The Game of "Admirals". This, however, allows a
capture by short jump or a series of short jumps, as well
as the "confrontation" capture. A jump over a "mine" results in
the loss of the jumping ship. If I remember correctly, the
position of the "Admirals" is not kept secret.
In Eaton's saw CONVENTION (Games Research).
In Toronto "Natural History" Museum saw a mural, which I
was told was a copy - with some dressing up - of one
actually on Crete. It is titled "Palace of Minos, The Queen's Apartment,
Knossos Crete, 16th c. B.C." Among other things it shows
2 boys playing MANCALA. The board is 12 holes set in a
circle. Only a small number of "stones" are shown.
(cont. from 6/28) [7/2]
HARPOON - by Gabriel.)
While at S.P.I. showed Al Zugier (see 6/14) the board and
rules for REAL ACTION BASEBALL GAME. He made repros [reproductions]
for himself.
Made 10 repros [reproductions] of my column for #38.
Call from Claude and we'll get together with Earl and
Issy & Betty Friday night.
I thought of the idea that if we want to get together to
play games sometime in a central location we can use
the S.P.I. office on a Friday night. Claude thought it
was a good idea.
