9 Saturday - June 1973
160th Day - 205 Days to Come
Rcd. [received] a letter from Tom Atwater. He's eagerly awaiting
HIT THE JACKPOT. Sent me rules for KALEIDOSQUARES (by Peter
Olatka & William Eberle) and a description of Alex Randolph's
GAME, a [illegible] take "a well-disguised alternative approach to DOZO."
He asked me for an "quicky originality appraisal." Also mentioned
SWEEP.
Wrote the rules for HIT THE JACKPOT, also an answer to
Tom Atwater's letter. BB typed them both.
At Marboro bought a book - THE RIVERSIDE PUZZLES.
(cont. from 6/10) [6/14]
ANCIENT HEBREW KINGDOM DIPLOMACY, DESTRUCTION OF ARMY GROUP CENTER,
and a few more. Also NEWTOWN rule interpretations.
Playing around with 3D BOXES by myself. Thought of the
following variations to insure that cubes are won quickly. 1) 4
horizontal rods are placed at random on the bottom level,
then 3 verticals. Then the game proper begins. 2) A vertical
cannot be placed on top of another vertical if there is no
horizontal at that point.
Played two games with BB, but we were both too tired to
really concentrate.
Before I got home BB got a call from Bob Abbott. He'd like to get
together. Left his number, but when I called he was out.
Bob Abbot [telephone number]
[line pointing to paragraph above and paragraph below] [started 6/14]
At Scribners Book Store looked at Scarne's
ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GAMES SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GAMES
(not SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA ON GAMES as stated last year
in TOY & HOBBY WORLD). Everything seems standard except
for his own TEEKO, SCARNE DICE, FOLLOW THE ARROW, and
possibly one or two more.
