5 Tuesday - June 1973
156th Day - 209 Days to Come
Found that the box from Russian SCRABBLE would be
the right size, and then made a board for
HIT THE JACKPOT. Worked til late. Pasting parts of
circular stampings in the corners to keep the chips in
place was a tedious job.
Phil Orbanes called. He won't be able to get together in the
evening to play COLLECTOR'S CHOICE. Arranged that I
would bring it Thursday afternoon and we'll play a little.
Also possibly a little CARTEL.
Called Larry Blandin of INTERNATIONAL GAME SHOW. Not in
and he called me back. Told him I haven't rcd. [received] the reconstructed
tape of last year's seminar on "What Makes a
Good Game," He'll look into it. He has some ideas for what
he'd like me to include in my seminar. He'll jot them
down and send them to me.
Had a new idea for an HONORABLE RELATIONS game. Object
is to get a number of tiles across the board. Tiles
move on space orthogonally. If land next to another
tile, either enemy or friendly, with 11 between them
the tile moves again. When move next to tile with
[arrow pointing left] between them, the tile at the tail of the arrow
can't move until the other one releases it. Two tiles with
[arrow pointing both directions] between them can't be placed, since both would be
frozen. Tried a little by myself and it seems as if it
may have some promise.
In the call from Larry Blandin he said that he has tried
to order $4,500 worth of Simulations Inc. games for the
show but has developed a bad relationship with Jim
Dunnigan. He would like me to try and patch things up.
Told him I'd probably see Jim Thursday and he'll call
me Friday to see what transpired.
(cont. from 6/6) [6/7]
To "Gamut of Games." Gave WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU?
(COLLECTOR'S CHOICE to Phil. Couldn't play since he hadn't
slept in 48 hours due to production problems, just solved.
He didn't have the black markers for CARTEL.
He had an extra copy of G&P #9 which he gave me.
Had articles on PENTOMINOES; "Games for the Family" including
CROSS OVER THE BRIDGE, SAGA, CIRCUS JUMBOLI, HEX,
SPELL MASTER, FOXED, MAD MARBLES, DON'T GO OVERBOARD,
BACKGAMMON; "Fortune-telling"; 4-2-4; TAROCK; POKER;
THINKING MAN'S GOLF; BATTLE OF THE BULGE; CALL MY BLUFF. Also
ads for COMPETITORS JOURNAL, DECLINE AND FALL, 4-2-4.
