10 Wednesday - January 1973
10th Day - 355 Days to Come
Odette Willis called. She spoke to Vittet last night and he is thinking
of coming to the U.S. to talk to me and Felicia. She asked my
advice and I said that, unless money is no object, the odds against
his getting his money back for the trip are bad.
Al Nofi called, in answer to a note I left on his desk. I asked
him about THE GUIDE TO SIMULATIONS/GAMES FOR EDUCATION AND
TRAINING, which I noticed yesterday was a review copy.
He thinks it would be a good idea to review it in my column.
He'd like to look at it, but then I can keep it.
It is much better than the previous edition. Among much,
much more, saw that it had EXECUTIVE DECISION and SLEUTH
(with my name), Buckminster Fuller's WORLD GAME, FAMILY (which
is cheap and looks interesting), and PINK PEBBLES.
Call from Bob Gellman. The one game they'd like done by Toy Fair
is PATTON since they have the art work. I asked if the deal
with Athol was signed yet. No. Now it is set for next week. I
said that I couldn't spend time until I knew it was definite since
I had too many other projects. He'll call me next week to let me
know the progress. I said that I'd do a little reading on Patton's life
prior to this to see if I felt I could come up with something. The
4 battles they mention in the copy are "Kasserine," "Cicily," "France,"
and "The Bulge." Actually these are campaigns. He called
Simulations before checking with me since he thought they might
have a game on the shelf.
Rcd. [received] the BLOCK 'N SCORE glossy (which unfortunately I don't
need since I already reviewed the game. Also included was
the OCCASIONAL NEWSLETTER ABOUT SIMULATIONS AND GAMES - (#15,
and last issue since it is being absorbed into the periodical
SIMULATION/GAMING/NEWS). The "Gambler's Bookclub" is mentioned
(see 12/23/72).
Rcd. [received] the estimated tax form from Leonard Willett. Then realized that
I hadn't included bank interest. Called him and I'll send $1200 instead.
Found I had the forms I rcd. [received] last year.
Wrote to the ACQUIRE fan (see 1/6) and sent another copy
with a note to Carol Peterson.
Since 3M is interested in puzzles, thinking of redoing HABITAT with
as few as possible different pcs. [pieces] - possibly 3, colored red-
white- and blue. If I word from the top down it will probably
work out easier.
Called Claude. We'll go there tomorrow and test the three
games of Howard Wexler's. Also I'd like to try the newest
version of THE BRAIN GAME. Claude has to have his report
in to Wexler Friday. He is getting $100 for the testing.
